Donnie Darko

A bit of a weird film this is but it deserves to be seen as there are very few unique movies out there and this is one of them.

The story centres around Donnie who is a very troubled person, one day he See's a giant bunny named frank who tells him that the world is going to end very soon and that Donnie has to do things what frank tells him to do.
Interspersed into the plot is a whole host of side plots from a Jesus loving freak who gets found out to be a paedophile to a teacher who has to explain to Donnie about space and time travel, to Donnie himself who has to deal with a psychiatrist who wants to dig deep into Donnie's mind and soul.

Now the film sounds a bit basic but trust me it's a very complex movie that needs to be seen more than once as there is a lot in this movie.
The acting is top class, the writing is up there with some of the best and the director seems to know how to take a complex story and be able to deliver it with such ease that you want to watch it a 2nd, 3rd or 4th time so you now the full extent of this very troubled person.

I really do recommend you see this movie as it's something very different from the same old normal films that are churned out over and over again

Aliens

Now this was a hard choice for my third movie to see before you die as i have a lot of movies that you should see and picking one of them is really hard but i went with the fantastic over the top action fest that is aliens.

Now to start off with i know that this is the sequel to alien and that most people hold alien as the best out of the series however I'm one of those people who think that the sequel is better than the original and it shows that all sequels aren't bad as this one in my eyes is better than the original.

The movie has a very simple premise as it See's a group of space marines sent to LV426 where Ripley's old ship the nostrmos originally picked up the alien in the original film and she finds out that there is a colony on LV426 and she believes that they are all dead and she can't be much right.
On landing on LV426 they realize that the base is empty from human life and they aren't alone as the base is now infested with aliens that have acid for blood and an appetite for human flesh, however there is one remaining human in the from of a little girl Rebbecca (newt).

The action kicks off when they discover that there might be human life after they receive the life signatures off the people that were the residents of LV426 however all is not as it seems as there is a dominant threat in the form of the aliens lurking down there.

The movie became a cult classic because of the amount of action and the witty one-liners with Newt sprouting the iconic line "they mostly come out at night mostly" and the other great witty responses coming from the other marines.
As a testament on how great this movie is it still stands the test of time these days as a great action movie and it remains a tuff movie to top as it shows with the other sequels not getting anywhere as close to how great this movie was.

If i had to recommend only one sci-fi action movie to take to a desert island then it has to be this one hands down

A Nightmare on Elm Street

In the second of my choice of movies to see before you die comes a film that scared the crap out of me when i first watched it and when i see it now it still holds a special place in my heart as being one of the best horror movies ever made.

A Nightmare on Elm Street gave birth to one of the most scary and iconic characters of all time with everybody rembering who Freddy Kruger was even if you've never seen the film first.
It all started off when a sick person who enjoyed killing kids, was burnt alive by all of the residents of Elm Street, however this man was so evil that he came back to kill there kids the only way he knew and that was in there dreams.
With Wes Craven doing this with his character gave him even more menace because most horror characters before killed you when you were awake but now you had somebody even invading your dreams so you had no where to go.

After the first 15 minutes the movie goes into overdrive hitting you with a whole bucket of gore and scares, from the memorable scene where you see freedy chasing the girl down the ally and stretching his hands out so his blades could scrap against the wall to the first death scene where the young girl gets drag onto the celing and dropped down onto the bed splattering blood all over the place you knew that this was'nt going to be any kind of horror film you've ever seen.
As the title suggest you were drawn into a nightmare from the start with you wanting to stay awake after the first watch just incase freddy was real and he came after you and this made the film what it was.

As usual with all of these movies there were aload of sequels and while none had the feel of the original movie it was'nt until freddy had to battle against Jason did we see how nasty he can get.

If you want to see a movie that will scare the shit out of you then i can't recommend this film enough as i know somebody who is an even bigger fan of this film than i am (if it's possible).
Go out now and by the box set of all of the films as they won't cost you that much these days.

Stand By Me

As i said in a previous post i'm going to start to post what movies you should watch before you die and at the end of the year i'm going to list my top 10 movies of all time.
Now i'm not going to put them in any order until i do the top 10 however my first movie choice is an exception as this is my fav movie of all time and the movie i'm talking about is Stand By Me.

The film has a simple premise it centres around four friends who set out to hunt for a dead body of a boy that was killed by a train, on there journey they grow up a hell of alot and remind you of what being a kid was like no matter how old you are now.

Now why should you see this movie well it boils down to one simple thing and thats the fact that it is a 100% perfect movie with it taking you back to how you acted in your childhood and even if you did'nt have the childhood they did it still makes you feel like a child and it takes you on there journey from beginning to end with you wanting to see the dead body as much as they do.
It also takes you through the same emotions as them with you laughing at the story that is read around the campfire and you sheding a tear on hearing Chris story when he was blamed for taking money he had'nt taken.
The movie in my eyes showed that you can take a bunch of unkown kids and they can hold a movie as this film has some of the best acting i have ever seen in a movie.

With a premise so simple you might dismiss this film as just very basic with nothing happening but you would be so far from the truth that you might as well just live on mars.
I emplore you that if you have'nt seen this movie hunt down for a copy now as you would'nt find a better movie than this and that is a fact.

This for me is the only movie that i have ever seen that i will give a perfect 10 and that is the reason why this is my favorite film of all time.
